Hi silj,I can tell you for OE....Tools menu> Options> Maintenance> Clean Up Now> Browse> select the News account (e.g. msnews) and click OK.Click the Delete button to delete all headers and messages.Click the Compact button.Click Close, then click OK.Then if you like you can click Tools> Accounts> News tab, select the news account, click the Remove button, click Close.I don't use Outlook or anything "Live"... ...glen

Appreciate that, GlenSilly me went and dumped my news.microsoft.com account from OE once the NNTP message started going poof. I had hoped to re-subscribe to same and then purge them but alas they are now here so what I really need to know is how to fetch and delete to actual stored messages from my OE data store, if that is possible.I suppose a similar scenario would be if someone test-drove Windows Live mail and decided they did not like it, how would they do same ? siljaline MS MVP Alumni

Although Microsoft has closed down most of itsnewsgroups (and will soon do the rest) the newsgroups continue toexist on lots of mirror news servers. Here are three free ones youmight want to try:aioe.orgnews.albasani.orgnews.eternal-september.orgWithout Microsoft's support, it may happen that traffic in theMicrosoft newsgroups will lessen and the newsgroups will graduallypeter away, but we'll see. It hasn't happened yet.what do OE | OL | WLM users do with residual news messages ?Ken Blake

If you've subscribed to a newsgroup via the MS newsserver and the newsgroup's been removed from the server, the newsgroup will be removed from your newsreader (e.g., OE & Wal-Mail but not OL which doesn't include a newsreader) and all downloaded headers/messages will be deleted from your message store. That being said, it can & often does happen that a now-removed newsgroup's DBX persists in OE's message store. If such is the case, you can delete the associated DBX file from the store manually.~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ still an MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services)
